Tim Garvin, president and CEO of United Way of Central Massachusetts, is the recipient of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation’s 18th annual Renaissance Award.
According to the foundation, the award is a recognition of the exceptional talent and dedication of those who lead nonprofits in Central Massachusetts. The amount of the award given to Garvin is $5,000.
Garvin assumed the role of president and CEO of United Way in 2006, an organization with more than a century of history with the stated goals of improving health, education, and poverty reduction in the city. United Way has become involved with other community grassroots organizations in the city, such as POW! WOW! Worcester and Project New Hope.
“Advancing the entire Central Massachusetts community through philanthropy has been the biggest privilege of my life,” said Garvin in a press release statement. “Thank you for this award; I am so proud of the work made possible by our amazing donors and the extraordinary United Way team.”
Previous winners of the award have included Ernie Floyd, executive director of Pride Productions, and Anh Vu Sawyer, the executive director of the South East Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts.
